Why is it so hard to find something that simultaneously tastes good and isn’t bad for you?

There are plenty of drinks on the market that taste good. However, these are almost always loaded with sugar. It’s true that many of these popular drinks are offered in a “diet” variety that skips the sugar, but the replacement is no better. Artificial sweeteners compromise taste and have a host of their own side effects. Studies have linked artificial sweeteners to health issues ranging from diabetes and metabolic syndrome — ironic given switching away from sugar was supposed to prevent those illnesses — to cancer and dementia.

So if sugar’s no good and artificial sweeteners aren’t any better, what then? Over the last few years, sparkling water has rapidly increased in popularity because it’s an answer to this problem — well, sort of. The reason people drink sugary drinks in the first place is because they taste good; otherwise, they’d just stick with water. Existing sparkling waters, though, don’t taste very good — generally, people drink sparkling water not for the taste, but in spite of it. It has the carbonation people are used to, provides a tinge of flavor, and you don’t have to feel as bad about drinking it, but it isn’t good.

This is where we came in. We saw that there were products that taste good and products that you don’t have to feel guilty about drinking, but not really anything with both. Our mission, then, was to create drinks that you can drink as much of as you want without worrying while simultaneously making sure that they taste so good that you’ll want to drink as much as you can get your hands on. In other words, we wanted to create a range of drinks that are zero compromise.
